Re: Sponsored server?

I had a very positive chat today; in short, what we'd want is called more a patron (mécène) than a sponsor. My contact was quite confident that we'd find someone and he offered to help in this process. We'd have to present our project and our needs in two or three paragraphs. That said, I believe th...

Re: File hosting, distribution and storage

I agree that it would be nice to have flac files first, while we are working on it and only encode to mp3 for the final release. But: Many PLers use their mp3 player for listening and many of them can't play flac. Many useful software (mp3gain, mp3tag, ... )works with mp3 only. I don't want to chan...

Re: Templates, tech specs and so on

But before we'll decide to put such a random letter code in it: did LV get a lot of complaints about this? I don't recall ever having seen this on the forums. Very good question! My MP3-player is over 5 years old; most people are not using this kind of stone age equipment anymore ... :P Or is this ...

Re: Templates, tech specs and so on

Actually, my MP3-player (but perhaps it's a strange one :)) sorts by only the first 4 or 5 characters; which means that files starting with book title are sorted all wrong  My husband wrote a linux script that puts '001', '002' etc. in front of all files in a folder, sorted on file name. My g...

My plan is to listen to any suggestion of yours that you think might improve the situation and think about how to make it work and integrate with the rest ;)

Re: File hosting, distribution and storage

If you upload something on dl.free.fr with an account, I think it's easier to get or recover a deletion link. Tutorial follows shortly :) I'm sorry that I haven't been more active within LV itself; I've maybe a lot of naive or wrong ideas of the final steps between BC and MC. Correct me when I'm wro...

Sponsored server?

A small server costs in France or Germany around 20 euros per month in a reasonable offer. (You also find offers with "unlimited storage" but I wouldn't count on that for a project of our size ;) ) Such a server would hold most of our infrastructure and give us some space for growth and so...

Re: File hosting, distribution and storage

Free.fr - well, er - it's all French. I couldn't even find were to create an account  Tutorial will follow! Another possibility might be ge.tt http://ge.tt/#4fzWf2l This is something I use for LV. They keep files 30 days from last download, when you have no account. Files associated with an a...

Re: File hosting, distribution and storage

Dropbox would be a good candidate, except that they are based in the US.

As Hokuspokus said, they might be OK for private backups, but not for public downloads, be it temporary forum links or permanent catalogue links.

Re: Discussion of set-up/future legamus.eu

So you'd want a wiki? No problem! I have some experience with setting up MediaWiki, that's the software Wikipedia and the LV wiki run on. It's reliable but not very adapted for rights management - it's very good if everything is public. Of course, it's possible to force people to login before they c...

Re: Discussion of set-up/future legamus.eu

Nadine, Leni, kattekliek, you're all admins now. Due to an unfortunate recent issue, may I ask you to use secure passwords? ;) Everybody is most welcome to use OpenID, but admins must have a local password in phpBB3 in order to access the "Administration Control Panel". Second, could one o...

File hosting, distribution and storage

Write your suggestions in this thread, I'll update this first post accordingly. We need file hosting on two levels: for downloads of final works and for temporary files only needed during the creation of a work. Downloads of finished works can happen through normal HTTP or through BitTorrent. For H...

Re: Discussion of set-up/future legamus.eu

Just a small note: I'm only able to post lengthy bits at lunchbreak and in the evenings. So you have to wait a bit for my answers ;) I suggest we look for "reasonable" freehosters (http://dl.free.fr is one, they even allow "communities" of files) and I write a little "tracke...

Re: Discussion of set-up/future legamus.eu

Language subthreads : I thought about that... but I'd argue for copying the LV system. We agree that we only want to do works that cannot be in LV. To my surprise, all European readers seem to be happy with English over there. If we now have language subforums, we risk to attract folks who only spe...

Welcome everybody!

A naked forum is not nice, so here's a little welcome message! This forum was triggered by this discussion: http://forum.librivox.org/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=33535 There are certainly plenty of things that can be improved here; at the moment, registration is (too) easy, and as a spam protection you...
