70 years applies by year, and from January 1st each year. That means Maurice Leblanc, for instance, who died in 1941, will be PD in France in 2012, on January 1st (looking forward to that).
Interesting list
The Great Gatsby and several of the Lucy Maud Montgomery books are on Gutenberg Australia.

Amazon has it for a mere 361$... I can't seem to find an online text though (for free that is).

wow!! The little I was able to find sounds very interesting, and I love Gene Stratton Porters books, maybe a free online text will show up some day...
