Hi Andrew

The two new sections are PL all OK, and a delight to listen to. Andrée's feelings about Albertine are certainly complex, as we see much later.

When young I used to find La Prisonnière and Albertine Disparue the least enthralling of the volumes, but I've now grown to appreciate them much more. No other novel 'accompanies' one through life like this one.

Best wishes
Martin

I listened to Neville Jason's abridged recordings as they were released, about 20 years ago, and thought those two books were a dull slog, but I read those volumes (Penguin translation) soon after my ex-fiancee had died suddenly and a mutual friend had told me that my late ex had once made a pass at her, so the themes had a bit more pertinence! I don't know how I'd get on with actually recording them - one day I hope to find out!

I have uploaded the final two sections :D :
Section 37 is http://ge.tt/4gTok5x1/v/0
32.0 MB, 34.59 mins

Section 38 is http://ge.tt/9Ohnt5x1/v/0
33.8 MB, 36.55 mins.

Bravissimo :!:

Both sections word-perfect. Another volume completed - and what a marvellously evocative description of end-of-season Balbec. Those closing sentences contain so much of the genius of the French language, even when refracted through the English, that I had to re-listen to them a second and third time.

Strangely, though, I still have the same vision of the seafront of my native Llandudno as when I first read this part of the book.

Looking to forward to spending time with Pliny -

All the best,
Martin

...and I'm looking forward to hearing Virgil and Corvo, Martin. Thank you for all the proof-reading you've done for me. I reckon I owe you a madeleine cake!

I don't know how the cover image is created. I was wondering about a Monet seascape/seashore scene. I've found The Boardwalk at Trouville on Wikiart which looks to me a suitable (and public domain) image, even if it's cropped a bit:
http://www.wikiart.org/en/claude-monet/ ... -trouville.

What else needs to be done?

Contratulations!

I start cataloging today. It may take a little bit longer than at LV. I can do the cover for you, adding author an title to the pictures. The pictures is very good to use.

Bravo for this extraordinary reading!

I'm trying to put the download page together and double-checked the file lengths, to make sure that I did not miss downloading a correction. There is only one file that puzzles me, section 5, which has been marked as PL OK immediately. So there should only be one version. Andrew writes it is 43.0 MB and 47:01 minutes, but what I have is longer: 45.9 MB and 50:07 minutes. Can anyone of you check his/her copy and tell me whether mine is OK or not?

Hang on, Viktor.

There is a bit of a problem. I spot checked the tech specs of the files every now and than as they came in and everything seemed OK, but looking at them all together now it shows that there is a very wide variety of volume (84-92db). Let my first try to get them a bit more even.

The ID3tags are absolutely perfect, not one thing to correct there. Thank you for that! :)

The section 5 I have has 50:07 but there is something strange with the file. My player (VLC) switches from 50:07 to 50:08 and back all the time. Might be a good idea to listen to all if the file again. Who volunteers, Andrew, Martin?

This is the one I have: http://ge.tt/255jc9y1/v/0
When you play the one in the MW in the browser, it says 41:58.

Hokuspokus, if it's just a question of running mp3gain over it, don't bother to upload them again ; I can do that on this end, too.

I've just prooflistened to the 50.07 version of Section 5. I'm so glad I'm now using a "pop" shield, that old recording was full of pops that I'd not been able to edit out but, despite that, it seems PL OK to me.

It can't be fixed with mp3gain. It will take a little time.

Thanks to the good (and fast!) work of Hokuspokus, the download page was easy to do:

Conversions will still take several more hours :D

Thank you very much for all your hard work and I'm sorry that my volumes were so variable.
I like the cover but can we change the text so it reads:

Within a Budding Grove
By Marcel Proust
Read by Andrew Coleman

? Sorry to be conceited and want my name included but it's my first ever solo so it's special to me.

It's changed.

The layout wouldn't work with more text in the middle, so I put your name at the bottom. It's totally understandable that you want your name on it. This recording is a great achievement!
