Hi Anna,

I wanted to post to let you know that I'll out of office at the end of the month and in early May. If you have anything, by all means upload it, I just won't PL until I'm back.
Erin

Hello Erin,
More than a year later - but I'm back! Sorry for the absence, hope you are OK and still interested.
I've missed recording a lot, and am now ready to get back into the saddle.
Next two chapters have just been uploaded.
Anna

Hi Anna!

Section 12 is PL OK. It's good to pick up these adventures setting up a homestead again!

I'll get to 13 shortly. I have one small note - it doesn't affect the meaning, but perhaps it might be useful for future reference. It's the pronunciation of cove (see the second definition):
https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/cove
Again, not a big deal, just a general point for reference.
Erin

Thanks! And that includes pointing out the pronunciation - some things I look up, but the dangerous ones are those where I THINK I know it, and I don't... :)

I'm also tempted to put a disclaimer somewhere that this very Australian book isn't read by an Australian...

Chapter 14 is PL OK.

Pronunciations - don't I know it! I have some howlers on record that I know how to avoid in future, but one thing that recording has done is make me second guess the pronunciation of absolutely everything. I'm sure I know it, and yet, maybe, just maybe, I don't...

Thanks!
Added Chapters 15-18. Don't feel rushed please - there's no hurry.

Cool!

I want to find out what happens, but I'll listen in stages. Chapter 15 is PL OK!

Chapter 16 is PL OK.

A couple of pronunciation notes just because it's so much fun...

'Tear' has two different pronunciations, just to be confusing. In the first definition, if you look at the listings under the subheading 'verb', number 2 has the definition and example sentences, and that definition has a sample pronunciation - to rhyme with chair or pear or stare. I hope that makes sense!
https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/tear

A finicky one, and one I doubt you'll come across that often: the stress is on the first syllable in 'provender', and I thought I heard it on the second.

Chapter 17 is PL OK!

I have one small note on pronunciation. This is a classic example of a homograph - 'bow' is spelled identically but the pronunciation varies depending on the meaning. If you take a deep bow, it rhymes with wow. It's definition 2 here:

hi Erin,
Thanks for the notes - do you perhaps have times for the mispronunciations so I can fix it, or do you think I could leave them?
I'll upload 19 & 20 - and then the book'll be done!

And I have a cover ready as well:
https://upload.legamus.eu/simple/files/ ... estead.jpg

With a blurb as intro:
This book describes the experiences of Dick Gall, a young Australian countryman, from the time of his first application for ‘a homestead selection’ to that of the birth of his ‘son an’ heir’ on the green-grey homestead. It also includes memories of his younger years, when he chased scrub cattle, hunted wild pigs on wild horses and played on the polo field. Steele Rudd knew what he was writing about, having grown up on a homestead selection at Emu Creek himself, and worked as a stockrider (or cowboy) as a teenager.
The book is written in a very lively style, and remarkably, in the second person singular - “you” will literally be Dick Gall himself. The opening sentence: “You’ll be single when the idea of taking up a homestead first gets you.” Or later: “You’ll be three years on the little grey homestead, working hard and becoming well-known and respected; you’ll receive kindly handturns from one and another, and be known to them all as Dick Gall.”

Hi Anna,

I didn't make a note of the pronunciations - I don't think they're really a big deal, but I hope it helps for future things!

Chapters 19 and 20 are PL OK, so the book is finished - well done!

I'm going to be really annoying and mention a typo in the new summary in your post - in the first line, 'countrymen' should be 'countryman'. I'm sorry, I don't switch off my inner teacher voice very easily!

Thank you so much for all the prooflistening (and patience while I disappeared) - and also for picking up the typo - that would be a big annoyance to me if that were left out there!! Fixing it now.

Great! So we can start cataloging.

Anna, I see that you sent me a PM but for some reason I can't open PMs at the moment. I guess you wanted to tell me that the recording is ready for the catalog. Thanks for that. If there is something else please tell me here or if it's privat PM me over at LV.

No, you were right, it was just to let you know this project was ready, since I was not sure you were following the thread - and to let you know not to feel hurried into cataloguing - take your time, no rush!
Thank you.
Anna
