I've updated the first post with a new kind of link to our Magic Window. Click on it and you should be able to edit it, when you are signed in with Google. (Soloist and DPL only.)

Hi

All's PL OK. I could really appreciate from your reading the sadness and self-delusion in Marcel's rejection of Gilberte.

All the best

Thank you for proofreading that Martin and for the kind comment about my acting. There are certain themes in Remembrance to which I can relate a bit too well, although mercifully most are in the past!

Since I'm getting close to the end of Volume 1 of Within a Budding Grove I was wondering whether I should mention the division of the volumes. My preference would be not to do so. I'll end one of the sections at the end of Volume 1 but, as far as I can tell, the split at that point has nothing to do with Proust, who placed his division between the end of "Mme Swann at Home" and the start of "Place-Names : the Place". What do others think?

Hi

The English translation preserves the Proustian headings (Place-Names: The Name, etc) as the main titles of the work's constituent parts, so I agree that these are the real divisions.

It depends. Sometimes they did divisions for technical or marketing reasons, even back then. I'd skip those.
Some authors divide their books into volumes even when they are printed in one book. I'd keep those.
I don't know Proust, but judging from the length of his chapters he is more on the non-division side. So skip it or when you can tell from the text that it is important, put it where the auther put it originally.

Unfortunately free.fr doesn't work. I tried 3 browsers but they don't show me a captcha. Could you please upload again to ge.tt?
Simply type ge.tt into the URL field/address field of your browser, no need to sign up or anything. Click upload file, follow the instructions on the screen and in the end copy the URL from the URL field and post it here, please.

That's a pity. Free.fr works well for me, but they are my ISP and never show a captcha to me anyway.

Andrew, don't worry, I'll take care of the re-upload!

Thank you for doing that - hope it works now.
On the subject of the split between volumes, I've checked a few other translations and they don't divide there so I'm not going to divide there either.

Thank you, Viktor.
Maybe it's just a problem with the side that provides the captcha and they solve it somehow.

Hi

Section 13 - PL all OK. I got so mesmerised trying to imagine the complexities of Odette's togs that I nearly forgot to alight from the train at Guildford.

Hello, just a little note about the upload situation: dl.free.fr works again - the captcha is still empty but you can simply click on the "Valider et télécharger" button. But http://ge.tt is easier.

I've uploaded Section 15 which I think is http://ge.tt/3go0TlI/v/0 although I don't really understand how to copy and paste the link. It is 44.7MB and 48.55 mins long and contains one of my two favourite descriptions of being drunk - the other being in Kingsley Amis' "Lucky Jim".

I have a blooper for this. I know I should start a bloopers thread but, if I do, how should I upload it?

Hi

Section 15 PL OK. Some marvellous writing in this.

Sometimes I feel: "I know exactly what he is feeling there..." - but then I wonder if I would know how to "feel" it if Proust had not taught me how to feel in the course of my earlier readings of the novel.

Best regards
Martin
