Just for the record as cover maker, the image used in the cover comes from this one in wikimedia commons:

Author is Wacław Szymanowski, and it is marked as "early 20th century"

I did not do it at the time of discussing the cover with the reader Newgatenovelist, but now I have searched further and I can complete a little bit more the details of the author and date. Looking with google here:

according to that: Wacław Szymanowski lived 1850-1930, and the date of the painting is 1901-1910
