Ah, so you're already familiar with this novel? I'm reading 'blind'

Two notes for chapter 4 are below, according to PL-plus.

I'm not sure I'd say I'm deeply familiar with the novel. I have read it, though not recently! And PLing is a whole other kettle of fish to recording. When I record I re-read, prep the text and generally take an age to get ready. With PLing, I just get to come along for the ride. :D

Please excuse my butchering of french in chapter 6. Unfortunately, i don't speak french and had to google how things are meant to be pronounced. It is probably unintelligible to anyone who does speak french

I will make the corrections to chapter 4 sometime next week if I don't get around to it on Sunday. At work from 8am Sat til 1 or 2pm sunday. Then off to get a covid vaccine

Chapter 5 is PL OK. One note for chapter 6 - it's in the French bit (sorry!), but a bit of English was dropped!

2.23, omission
'Mais quel type, [quel type!' she was always exclaiming.] 'Vous êtes déjà une vraie petite Amazone, Stévenne.'

All of the French governess's sentences are *exactly* the type of thing I look out for when I pre-read a book as a possible recording project. Well done for taking it on, because this would have me huddled in a corner. I will mention one resource, forvo.com, just in case you're not aware of it. I don't think it would be much help for full sentences like this chapter just gone, but for stray words or historical names sometimes you strike it lucky.

As an aside, you may have more French coming up later on. Stephen's service with the ambulances in WWI is obviously in continental Europe, but I can't remember how much French, if any, there is those chapters. I read this novel before I started recording, so I wasn't looking at half my reading material with one eye to it as a future project!

That is one substantial shift. I hope by the time you read this that you've had some coffee and are feeling okay-ish. And hurrah for getting the vaccine! That's properly exciting news.

I just make the assumption that most people who will listen are as clueless in french as i am and will have no idea that I actually just made up a whole new language

I had a quick look and it seems as though there is some french but not as much as in chapter 6. I could be in for a surprise though.

It's not as terrible as it sounds as i do at least sleep at work overnight, but it's still a long time to be away from home.

I had assumed you might have to keep going through the shift, but if you're able to sleep that's something. But yes, it is a long time to be away.

I'm in no position to cast stones about French! There are some truly awful instances in some of my early recordings before I knew about tools like Forvo. It makes me wince just to think of them. Buuuuuuut, and this is no small thing, those projects wouldn't exist if I hadn't just ploughed on. It's hard working through that sometimes, but it's just a friendly reminder that it's part of what we have to do to get that free audiobook finished for listeners!

There was a time when we were so short staffed that i pretty much lived at work. I do try to only work my contracted hours these days though.

Ended up not getting my vaccine today. I didn't feel it was worth the risk with the snow. I skidded around a fair bit on my way back from work and saw a couple of accidents. Then my appointment was 3 hours after I got home from work so it would have been worse then  Getting into a car accident felt more risky than the chance of catching covid. I'll rebook next week.

Chapter 4 is spot PL OK.

Sometimes trying to stick to contracted hours is harder than it sounds, and certainly harder than it should be. Well done for trying not to exceed your hours.

Keep safe in the bad weather!

I've fixed both of those :D https://upload.legamus.eu/simple/files/ ... 8_hall.mp3

I wasn't too concerned by the pronunciation of the first, but i heard a car driving past at the same point so re-did more so because of that.

My car passed it's mot today so i guess the week isn't treating me too badly. I hope all is well with you :D

That's a good bit of admin out of the way! I hope you've been able to reschedule your first vaccine as well. My week is off to a reasonable start, even if I still feel like it's January!

I had my first vaccine last week. I have an appointment for the next one, but i'm waiting for something to go wrong to be honest. These vaccines seem to be going too smoothly, something has got to go wrong

Great! I have one note for chapter 9. It's a bit fussy, so you decide what, if anything, you'd like to do with it.

24.32-24.34, check pronunciation
They were indivisible...

Getting the first vaccine is a start! But yes, I can completely understand not believing it until it actually happens. I hope it all goes smoothly, and with minimal headaches/fever/whatever after effects are common with whichever one you've had.

Have a good weekend, whatever you're recording!

Luckily i didn't get any symptoms from the first vaccine, other than a slightly achy arm. :)
