Isabel és la muller de Don Pau Galceran, hereu d'una vella família de Vilaniu (pseudònim de Reus) que torna al poble després d'haver viscut uns anys a Barcelona. Rera l'aparent benvinguda dels vilatans, la família i en especial Isabel esdevenen víctimes d'una calúmnia promoguda per interessos polítics. La novel·la presenta el contrast entre el fosc immobilisme i la mesquinesa de la societat de la vila en contrast amb l'empenta política i científica de la ciutat de Barcelona, lluminosa i avançada.

Isabel is the wife of Don Pau Galceran, heir to an old family in Vilaniu (pseudonym of Reus) who returns to the village after living in Barcelona for a few years. After the apparent welcome of the villagers, the family and especially Isabel fall victim to a slander promoted by political interests. The novel presents the contrast between the dark immobility and pettiness of the town's society in contrast to the bright and advanced political and scientific drive of the city of Barcelona.

Finally, I cannot check the catalogue data. It asks for a password.
