I really enjoy GK Chesterton... I like his use of language and he paints interesting pictures...
G K Chesterton wrote:The truth is that people who worship health cannot remain healthy. When Man goes straight he goes crooked. When he follows his nose he manages somehow to put his nose out of joint, or even to cut off his nose to spite his face;
Chapter 2:
There is a strange
pause at 00:47 per...versity
Other than that it is PL:OK
Chapter 3:
almost PL:OK, but it is
only about 80 db - did you change your recording set-up?

Hi Julia,
Totally agree with you - he really is just a pleasure to read. The use of paradox and pattern is just fantastic. He's also quite witty, and I try to capture that in my delivery - in a lot of ways, I think some readers often miss where he's making a joke, which is a shame, because humour is actually an essential part of his rhetorical technique.
I've updated the file for Chapter 2, fixing the "per...versity" (of all the words to mess up!

):

With the Volume on Chapter 3, how loud should it be? And how do I check the decibels on Audacity? I did fiddle with the loudness after 19 seconds on that recording, because the first 19 seconds sounded much softer, so I was trying to make it even. Just in case that was all the problem was, I've uploaded it with that level restored to "Gain: 0dB":

If it's still a problem let me know.

You can't check the dB with Audacity, but you can use Checker, a nice little tool made for LibriVox.
http://www.cgjennings.ca/checker/
Click on Information to see the dB.
Section 2 is OK dB wise, section 3 could be 2 dB louder, if possible withour clipping.

apart from checker... there is a plug-in for audacity which tells you how much to (de-)amplify your file to get it to a good level... it uses ReplayGain (a sort of standard of perceived loudness) and the recommended increase (or decrease) brings the file almost always to 89 db (+/- 0.5 db)... I think I got it from
here... I have the 'old' version, which only analyzes
At least for me it works well

Hi I checked the last version of Ch3 with Checker 0.95, and on the strict validation, the only thing it said was wrong was the ID tags. Having said that, I upped the dB by +2, as you instructed HP.

According to Checker, it's now 88.8dB. That's the version that is now on the Google doc.
Hopefully that means they are both PLOK now.
I'm also hoping to have Ch4 done today.

Here's Chapter 4.

Once again, I checked it with Checker, and it said it was okay. It's running at about 90dB.

I've fixed the repeat, but the second hiccup is the word "of", and is meant to be there, so I probably shouldn't ditch that!
