Wie sich herausgestellt hat, ist das Buch nicht von Meyrink sondern von Schmid Noerr und erst in 26 Jahren gemeinfrei. Mehr dazu hier.

While my German in super-basic I managed to understand the most important part: the book you've been reading is not by Meyrink but by his friend, whose works are still copyrighted. Bummer
From your blog post I managed to understand that you found that info in a book about literature (or was a monography about Meyrink?). Do you find that book/info reliable? Maybe you should ask somebody else's opinion too. I understand that this is a new claim? A quick look at Wikipedia (yeah, I know it's not the best source ever...) shows that they class "Angel..." as Meyrink's work. Plus, what is the procedure in such a case anyway?

Well, the source is quite reliable. The author is a retired professor for literature and has a big name as authority for Kafka. And the claim is not so new. Schmid Noerr the true author claimed authorship first in a letter from 1940 or so. It is a rumour in the literature world since at least 1980.
Hartmut Binder dug up some really convincing proofs.
There is a handwritten manuscript of the first version by Schmid Noerr in his bequest, only a typewriter carbon copy of a later version in Meyrink's.
There is an agreement about the money the book would earn between S N and M, half and half (for S N's work and Meyrink's name, one should think).
Even the German Wikipedia knows about it. They say that S N is co-author. I read a lot of Meyrink's work and Der Engel really is quite different.
Just bad luck.
Strange thing is - this book was the foremost reason for me to take part in Legamus, I really wanted to record it. But while I was one it, it was very hard for me to do, almost as if I shouldn't.

Tough luck
Well, there's nothing stopping you from recording the rest of it in the comfort of your own home for you own use and enjoyment, I guess

There are good news about this project!
I contacted the son of the author in order to ask his permission for completing the audio book and publishing it here under what ever CC licence he thinks fit. He answered me that according to copyright law Meyrink is the author and the book is therefore in the public domain. Juhu!!!
Dear Admin colleagues, I remember what I said back then and how crazy I was about all that. I calmed down by now and think we can work on this project like on any other project.
