Welcome to part 2 of our collection :D
The stories that were read for part 1: "The Festival", The Nameless City", "He", "Cool Air", "The Very Old Folk", "Pickman's Model", "In the Vault", "The Alchemist".

The rules for this collection:
1. The reader selects the story they want to read.
2. Don't worry if your chosen story has already been read for part 1. Multiple versions are welcome :)
3. Please take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._P._Love ... bliography which contains a list sortable by publication date. Try to select a piece published after 1922 to avoid overlap with LibriVox
4. There's no limitation as to the number of stories one person can read
5. A story shouldn't be longer than 2 sections

Also a question to the prospective MC: can I request an extra section if there's such a need?

I will claim it as an MC, if you want me. The MW is activated. You can add or delete sections just by your own!
Happy recording! :D

We don't have a DPL yet, but I would volunteer to check your recordings as interim ... since you can't check them yourself! :D

I neglected to mention this. Rapunzelina said she would continue as the DPL for this part also. I didn't want to put her in in the first post until she would post here herself, but I guess I should have.

Thanks :) That's very helpful. I assume these are only post-1922 works? That would explain why I at first thought that were surprisingly few of them ;)

Also, seeing as I'm now recording "Rats in the Walls", some of the longer ones should be admissible too.

Yes, only those post 1922 ;) The rest I think can already be found at librivox! :D

Brilliant work, Rapunzelina. Feel free to put a copy of that list in the Book Suggestion area, so that it can serve for the next projects. Lovecraft seems to have a lot of fans here!

That was magical...! Thank you for these stories Martin!
They are PL OK alright!

(My personal tendency would be to do a pass of noise-cleaning, but that's just me and my obsessive–compulsive tendencies :) )

Thanks, Rapunzelina. What you're hearing isn't real noise. I turned up the "Ambience" dial on my recording software this time; its purpose is to make it sound more like a real room. Not much, only about 20% of max. It could be turned still lower though if needed. I also added a tiny bit of reverb for a subliminal hint of creepy, this being Lovecraft after all. :) I personally like the effect, as I think it makes the recording sound more three-dimensional along the lines of what old-time audiophiles often point to as the difference between analogue (vinyl) and digital (CD) musical recordings (they claim digital sounds "flat" by comparison).

The room I read in, while ideal in some ways, is small with thick walls, thick carpeting on the floor, and a fair quantity of sound-absorbing books and furniture, so my "dry" recordings sound kind of dead and even muffled, to me at least. So I've begun to try this and that. But all this is experimental for me, so I seriously welcome, even seek feedback. What works, what doesn't, how it could be made better, other effects or techniques I could try.

Thanks again,
Martin

Aah! I see what you did! Yes, in that case the effects you applied were very, well, effective! :D
The result was as I said magical! A magical journey to the Lovecraft world...
Limiting the "Ambience" might work as a compromise for those like me that are used to the digital flat sound

Here's another one for Vol. 2, "The Strange High House in the Mist"

Link to file: http://upload.legamus.eu/simple/files/K ... ecraft.mp3
Length: 26505481 bytes (25.278 MB) — Duration: 1656 seconds (0:27:36) — Bitrate: 128 kbps
uploaded on Mon Apr 21 2014 22:49:26 GMT-0400 (EDT)

I dialed down the Ambience a bit this time, does it sound better?

Also, the other two stories haven't been marked PL OK in the MW yet, even though Rapunzelina has said they are. Should I change the Ambience on those too?

Cheers,
Martin

That was my fault! I forgot about the Magic Window! I will listen to your newest upload and then update the MW all together.
Thank you!
