Re: Solo [EN]Argonauts of the Western Pacific, B.Malinowski-
Sections 23 and 24 have been uploaded.
Re: Solo [EN]Argonauts of the Western Pacific, B.Malinowski-
There's PL OK next to it - I don't think I listened to this one - the last one I listened to was the short one. ??? I will listen to it anyway, lots of good tips about canoe building and magic, you never know what will come handy!Piotrek wrote:Section 22 (Chapter 8) has been uploaded.

Chapter 10 will be about witches
Stay tuned for more useful knowledge

Re: Solo [EN]Argonauts of the Western Pacific, B.Malinowski-
And the section 25 is in place, as promised. Witch training, diet and customs clearly explained

Re: Solo [EN]Argonauts of the Western Pacific, B.Malinowski-
Oh good, more useful stuff. I think I will be trying these speed spells on my car... NT Gov is thinking of lifting speed limits outside towns.

Chapter 25 reads ok, just a little snag in metadata (character displaying wrong). I don't think I'd make a good witch - been vegetarian for too longPiotrek wrote:And the section 25 is in place, as promised. Witch training, diet and customs clearly explained

Re: Solo [EN]Argonauts of the Western Pacific, B.Malinowski-
Section 27 has been uploaded. More shipwreck magic. We're getting closer and closer to the actual Kula proceedings.
Re: Solo [EN]Argonauts of the Western Pacific, B.Malinowski-
Oooh shipwreck magic! Just what we need here in Alice Springs! Did I tell you that we have a river here - Todd River - flowing only after heavy rains. Once a year the town organises Henley on Todd - boat races. The twist is that the bottoms of these boats (not real boats, just make believe) are taken out and people race on their feet in the dry river bed - have a look at some hilarious photos here: http://www.henleyontodd.com.au/
But one never knows... with oceans rising anything's possible.

"So we can't have a regatta on a desert, huh? Well, watch this!"
Section 28 has been uploaded. I like it how Malinowski sometimes smuggles remarks about particular native individuals into the narrative. Like when he said earlier that some particular chief had to use his minions to say spells for him, because he himself had no memory for formulae. In this section you'll find an even more hilarious example

That poor chap who was bragging about his amorous conquests?Piotrek wrote: In this section you'll find an even more hilarious example

Both chapters PL OK and the characters in metadata displaying correctly.
Re: Solo [EN]Argonauts of the Western Pacific, B.Malinowski-
Yes, especially the bit in bold
BTW: 50% of all the sections have been recorded

One thing I found intriguing and which I hope will be explained somewhere later on is how the more eminent Kula participants- the ones with scores of partners- keep track of the state of transactions. Bearing in mind that it's not a simultanous exchange, this probably requires some "scorekeeping". Unless there is some banal explanation I haven't thought about...Whatever we might think about Layseta's temptations — and his personal appearance and charm do not make his boastings very credible — and whether he was afraid of sorcery or of a sound thrashing, the fact remains that a Trobriander would have to change his usual mode of behaviour when in the Amphletts, and keep away from the women entirely.

Section 29 has been uploaded.

A step even further back and another missing section, 12, is in place.

Thank you for the link Piotrek, I got curious and googled images for "Triobrand canoe" - lots of beautiful pictures and canoes in action.Piotrek wrote:This one is rather difficult to follow without looking at the diagrams in the book: to be found here
This section has a bit of electronic buzz, mostly in the first half. I've tried to use the first second as noise sampler and removed noise, but didn't listen long enough to decide if it makes much difference

Once this is done we should alert ANU of its existence - they have big Asia Pacific college there http://asiapacific.anu.edu.au/research/ ... -expertise
